What's Wrong with this Picture?

So I saw this on Fox News and I highlighted something I found odd.

So aspiring and/or junior deputy economists, anybody want to tell me what the REAL problem here is?

Hint - It's not the fact some child who should be too young to know what crack is brought it to school for show and tell.

Ah, I know!! I know!! you threw out economics as a red herring. The real problem is that "Fox" annexed to "News" is an oxymoron.

Hmmm... twenty minus six, minus nine months or so for pregnancy...

Yup. Child crack-whore.

The salient facts that a) she had a child at the age of fourteen, and b) was only booked on a misdemeanor charge?

Of course, our society isn't decaying or anything, but what do I know? I'm just a historian.

I will tell ya .. Parents of the 14 year old girl who got pregnant!.

Spare the rod and spoil the child. In this case, an entire generation..

oh wait, that got nothing to do with economy.. oh well (I am sticking to my story anyway.. I am curious to see the economic aspect)

This is a total shot in the dark, but could it be that the 20 year old has a 1st grader? Do I get a star for the day? This could be one of those situations where parent and kid are hanging out at the bar once they both hit legal drinking age. Oh wait, forget the bar, they might be selling crack on the street corner together.

That a 20 year old would have a child old enough to be in 1st grade.

DING DING DING!

All correct answers all of you.

However, I would like to give honorable mention to two individuals;

1. Ryan considered the nine months pregnant deal, which means in reality she was having sex at 13.

2. Ro! went so far as to follow the problem probably to its true origin, the grandparents (or allow me to be cynical) grandparent.

3. Anon, I have to give Cynicism Points (because I'm a big fan of cynicism) with the jib about Fox News.

I can predict the economic factor right now.

This person likely now does not have a job, and I will lay excellent odds that her parent (emphasis on the singular) did not have a job either, nor did the parent (whom I would further lay excellent odds is the mother) own her own home, but grew up in government housing. It would not surprise me in the slightest if the grandmother is under the age of 45, and her last name differs from that of her daughter.

I further predict that the 20-year old will undergo "counseling" and "rehabilitation", the child will be returned to her care after the state declares her to be a fit parent again (in, say, a year), and this family will disappear from the national radar.

That's not cynicism, either; that's hard experience.

And another thing: crack is valuable. I don't let my kids just wander off with my crack, any more than I would let them wander off with my jewelry or my good guns.

That woman is just plain irresponsible.

Ah! A jib at Fox News! How innovative!

Wait, I forgot: only completely liberal broadcasts are considered actual news.

Don’t you have a war protest to go to?
